28-36 3,305
The level has just increased to 11. The blinds are 1000/2000 with limits of 1500/3000. Watch this mass exodus!
12:41
Down to 39. Bonnie Rossi failed at this attempt, but that woman is one heck of a player. You WILL see her name again.
12;25
It seems that the Omaha tournament has a lot of professionals per capita. Although there are a lot of people still in that I dont know. We are very close to payout time. Huck Seed is out.
12:00
Down to 48 now. Sorry, Max Pescatori must have been gone, he is still in and has about 15K in chips.
11:30
Break. Time to chip up to the next flavor and play for a little higher limits. We'll move up to 500/1000 blinds and 1000/2000 limits.
11:20
Down to 6 tables, 54 players. Josh didnt seem to make it, so, no purse etc. for the dealer I reckon. These players are also missing in action:
Max Pescatori
Andy Kelsall
Kiril Gerasimov
11:00 Looks like about 65 left.
10:55
Josh Arieh was down to his final 500 and promised the dealer that IF he wins this tournament, he will give her $10,000. He is UTG and goes all in. He gets a caller and a raiser. There is a side pot to vie for now. The caller calls the raise and is also all in. The hands unfold like this:
Josh 8d 7c 9c 9s
Player B A 6 2 3
Player A A 4 9 7
The flop fills Josh's heart with delight as it comes 2s 9h Jd followed by a 2d and a 8s for a full house and he triples up. He asked the dealer if she had the $10 spent already and she said she was going to buy a purse. Josh screeched, A PURSE!!! well, if I win, Ill give you $10 AND a purse.
10:45
Sorry, I had a little technical difficulty, but, it is all groovy now. Looks like we have dropped Vince Burgio, Chris Tsiprailidis, Artie Cobb and Steve Zolotow.
10:15
Jean Robert Bellande didnt have much fire power left and is the latest casualty. The players on on break and we will go to the next level in 15 minutes. Level 9 will be 400/800 blinds with 800/1600 limits.
10PM
Chris is signing off now and going for dinner and a nice long nights sleep. So, Ill pick up where he left off. This is Sharla and I have some chip counts for you.

JIm Meehan
Annie Duke
David Levi
Paul Philips
Mike Sexton
David Williams
Dan Heimiller
Vince Oliver
Raffe Furst
Kristy Gazes
and, not too officially, Barry Greenstein
Now I saw Josh Arieh 1 1/2 hours ago walking slowly away from the tournament area, all possesions in hand. OUT I said to myself from 15 meters ....sorry yards away. However there he was as large as life calling pre-flop in seat 6 on table 5 as I just passed it amoment ago. Back in then , I guess.
15:40:- VERY SLOW
The eliminations in this tournament are going very slowly. The original field of 359 were spread across 37 tables. Originally 10 handed the first outs were filled by a player from each of the ten handed tables. The first of the full tables have only just started to break. The one from each table makes it a bit difficult to track the survival of some players, so here is my definitely out list
Josh Arieh
Greg Raymer
Matt Savage ( he is playing the super satellite )
Maureen Feduniak
Steve Badger - just as i was coming to media room
I think Barry Greenstein - his chips might have been moved and as he now has gone to the PLHE final its a bit hard to tell - more later on that one
OK- The Sheet is out so as I said 359 players , 36 being paid
1. $255,945
2. 132,110
3. 66,055
4. 57,800
5. 49,540
6. 41,285
7. 33,030
8. 24,770
9. 16,515
10-13 9,910
14-16 8,255
17-19 6,605
20-27 4,955
28-36 3,305

12:20 Play Has Begun
On time ( not at 12:20 ) play commenced. There are 36 tables setup with most having seat 5 of 10 left empty. Right up front, this tournament does not have the depth of experience that yesterday's had but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make the money just the same.

22:00 Few more Gone
Another 3 names gone.
Scotty Nguyen
Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi
Surindar Sunar
21:35 Chips Found and Away We Go
Just down to 9 tables now.
A few names made their departure there.
Daniel Negreanu had 10 9 with a board including 9 9 8 but John Phan slyly called Daniel's all-in to try to induce a third active player into continuing. No such luck and when John turned his cards over he had 9 8.
AJ Kelsall left from table 1
and Todd Brunson ( his stack restored ) lost them and more and left the arena.
Our absent player Barry Greenstein has joined us fresh from winning the bracelet in the Pot Limit Omaha tournament.
20:40 Chips Missing
Two minutes into the next level Todd Brunson returns to his table to find 4K in chips missing from his stack. The story goes that during the break a drink was spilled and the redistribution of the chips by the dealer was a little astray. We have to go to the video tape to get this one right as no-one can agree on who had what.
19:10 Dinner
Just when you say someone is doing OK he gets involved in a huge pot and Joe Beevers ships his chips to Hassan Habib and departs. Marco Traniello also leaves us before dinner. An 80 minute break begins as the tournament area empties.
This might be interesting , I'll follow Barry Greensteins chips during the evening. At the moment they sit next to the Devilfish and sum to about 16K. He is still sitting at the PLO final table.
18:45 VERY SLOW
Thought I should rush back with all the news. It's 20 minutes to the dinner break. No No, I'm only joking, seriously its 19 minutes.
Just about to go to 9 tables, 81 players.
Those not getting a return on their $5,000 outlay are
Paul Wolfe
Chris Tsiprailidis ( have to look that up every time)
Robert Williamson III
both the last two taken out by Daniel Negreanu
Jeff Lisandro
David Levi
Still a bit early for serious chip counts but Daniel, The Grinder, Devilfish, Cyndy, John Phan and Joe Beevers are well ahead of average.
17:30 The Best Remain
We continue the reallocation of chips and as such the numbers of remaining players decrease. With 10 minutes to go in Level 4 the 14th table was just breaking, leaving 117 combatants.
Only 18 to get money today - 239 starting.
Payouts :
1. $370,685
2. 204,440
3. 112,330
4. 89,865
5. 67,400
6. 56,165
7. 44,930
8. 33,700
9. 22,465
10-12 15,725
13-15 13,480
16-18 11,235
Those we lost during that stanza
Phil Helmuth
Chris Ferguson I think
Jeff Shulman
Perry Freidman
Hoyt Corkins
Dewey Tomko
David Chui
Antonio Esfandiari
Jason Lester
David Colclough
and Barry Greenstein is over playing the final table of the Pot Limit Omaha - see Mike's BLOG. His chips are somewhere in my tournament being blinded I guess.
16:17 Working through the short stacks
Mr M Paulle has provided me with amost comprehensive list of the players so I can more accurately note outs.
Those who left in that half hour were
TJ Cloutier
Julian Gardner
Meng La
Annie Duke
John Kabbaj
David Pham
Johan Storakers
and Surindar Sunar has appeared
15:50 Play seems to be Loosening
We drop to 19 tables as I left the tournament area - final official numbers and payouts soon.
Josh Arieh seems to missing as does Tom Franklin, Dan Heimiller and Humberto Brenes. Carlos Mortenson David Colclough and Barry Shulman could not be seen but their tables all had stacks but no player so I will update these later
15:15 - Slowly does It
Quick update
We lost Chris Biggler, Layne Flack, Peter Costa and Scott Fischman during that passage of play and time.
14:20 Only a few missing
With the levels so long not so much gambling is being done. The only people I can see who are missing are
Ram Vaswani
Ross Boatman
Barny Boatman
hmmm.... not so good today for the Hendon Boys, just Joe left
Chip Jett
A few more additions
Hasan Habib
David Levi who is sitting where Blair Rodman was so I guess he is out
Freddy Deeb although I saw him walkink in the corridor just after I checked the field but he may have been going to the toilet
Juha Helppi
An Tran
John Hennigan
13:25 A Few more obviously want to be part of a very hard to win poker tournament
Few more additions
Ted Forrest
Allen Cunningham
Chris Bigler
Cyndy Violette
Dewey Tomko
Minh Nguyen
Robert Williamson
Scott Fischman
Men Nguyen
Mike Sexton
Meng La

And Barry Greenstein ( yep same one as on the final table of the Pot-Limit Omaha event later in the day )
12:50 - This is a GREAT Poker Field
The $5,000 Pot Limit Holdem event started pretty well on time. Periods have been extended to 75 minutes, up from the standard 60. I sat at the entrance to the area to get a list of "names". As the minutes go by so do the absolute cream of the worlds poker players. Only 23 tables are setup at the moment implying about 250 players maximum. It would be easier to tell you who isn't playing.
Here is an attempt to to tell you who is

As advertised Phil Hellmuth went ballistic when he flopped two pair and he lost in 10th to a straight on the turn. "Is it personal?" Phil asked the guy behind him when he was called instantly. Phil went all-in for his case 6,500 when he flopped 8's and 7's. The guy had K J J 9 and a 10 on the turn gave him the Jack high straight. Jay Heimowith was beaten all-in with less money to get 11th.
They are done for the night. Chip counts and seat assignments to follow.
"You can quote that, Mike," Phil told me. "Play perfectly all night and get beat in four hands by some donkey who can't spell the game." Okay, Phil I quoted you.
1:35
Still 14 with one hour and change left in the night.
Phil Hellmuth shook each player's hand in case he was knocked out. "Because if I am there will be a major meltdown." Might as well be nice while you can.

21:55 The Money
Down to 27. The people we lost unfortunately I did not know. So that means the people I do know are a little bit richer, atleast.

Tony Cousineau 1K
20:35 Nearly There
Only Chris Bjorin and John Juanda were recognisable of the 10 people to be eliminated in the last half hour.
Chip stacks haven't changed much as the eliminated players were all low stacks. It is worth mentioning that Phil H is steadily increasing his count and seems to be getting more confident as he goes.
Toto still has the largest count and Barry Greenstein is increasing his worth as well.
DINNER yea!
David Colclough , Eric Froehlich and David Rabbi were the names to go this round.
Chip counts
Toto Leonidas - clear leader - 34K
Paul Maxfield 25K
Eric Bloore 25K
Chris Lindenmayer 25K
Tim Martz 18K
Chris Ferguson 15K
Stuart Fox 12K
Barry Greenstein 11K
Phil Helmuth 12K and looks focussed
Julian Gardiner 15K
John Juanda 7K
The large stacks reported are the chip leaders in the tournament too.
Correction Chris Bjorin should have been 3.5 K
Play resumes at 20:00 local time - cu then
BANG CRASH EXCITEMENT - nope
I guess television no-limit holdem has ruined us for the finer things in poker. PLO is always slow when people get significant chips - so slow it is.
Some counts while we wait for the money:-
Chris Bjorin 35K
John Juanda 22K
Paul Maxfield 22K
Toto Leonidas 15K
Chris Ferguson 15K
Barry Greenstein 12K
Stuart Fox 12K
Julian Gardiner 8K
Tony Cousineau 5K
David Colclough 2K
Eric Froehlich 1K
Alysia left us during this level thanks to Stuart Fox his two Kings and aboard including aKing and two 8s.
17:05 Slowly Now
Progress is slow now. Those to have lost the fight recently
David Williams
John Bonetti
and Joe Beavers
Phil Hellmuth claimed a victim with the lowest of straights and greatly improved his position.John Juanda is slowly building and Toto Leonidas maintains his chips on his table.
16:15 The stacks are getting bigger
At the second break ( those of you who know tournament poker will realise we are at the end of Level 4 not 5 as previously reported) only 8 tables remain ; 72 players 45 to the money.
Recent departures
Robert Williamson III
Annie Duke
An Tran
Eric Bloore is our chip leader with about 26K, the very last hand before the break he got raised out by two duelling pairs of Aces, holding KK88 double suited a King flops and one of his suit completes , the pot was huge, but was of course split between the two remaining players. John Juanda ( gee you hear that name alot) has near to 24K, Toto Leonidas has just on 24K and Julian Gardiner 12K, Phil Helmuth 9K AND Alysia about 3K.
15:45 Play continues
Progress is still fairly slow , we are down to 10 tables of 9.
Those missing during this the 5th level are
Simon Trumper
Padraig Parkinson
Erik Seidel
and David Ulliott
Neil Channing must be out because he was washing his hands next to me in the men's room.
Total starters number 291 today with 3 tables , 27 players getting the money

AND a BIg hello to Alysia Chang's relatives from Alysia - she is still in (low in chips) BUT in.
14:42 Flowing along
Well into Level 3 now the tables have reduced to 17.
Too early for significant counts yet but the following people are out
Richard Ahsby
Kirill Gerasimov
Scotty Ngyuen
Huck Seed
Jeff Lisandro
Chris Ferguson
Shoes
Mike Manttan
Dan Heimiller
Josh Arieh
Allen Cunningham
It was easy to spot them because most had entered for the 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo tournament, which has now started in the upper part of the room. See Sharla's report on this site.
13:42 Slowing Down Now
Well as always happens in freezout PLO events "fireworks" then "gondola ride" , I guess its mathematics but I've never seen it explained.
Three out and one resurrection :
Outs:
Yvgeny Kafelnikov
Humberto Brenes
and Berry Johnston
Ins:
John Bonetti ( must have been hiding )
AND at 13:35 Phil Hellmuth makes his entrance
Just short of the first break; the 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo will kick off during the break and the remaining 20 for the $2,500 Limit Holdem are gathering
12:55 A Few More Come To Play
A few more have arrived and a few have left already
Arrivals :
Barry Greenstein
Robert Williamson III
Berry Johnston
Richard "Chuffty" Ashby
Scotty Ngyuen
Simon "Aces" Trumper
Josh Arieh
David Williams
Alan Cunningham
Departures:
Ralph Perry
Ross Boatman
Huck Seed
Peter Costa
Doug Lee
John Bonetti
12:25 Pot Limit Begins
It looks like 29 tables for the Pot Limit small buyin event - each table had the 5 set empty but many are filled now.
Those I could recognise :-
Toto Leonidas
Jeff Lisandro
Joe Beavers
Kirill Gerisimov
Erik Froelich
David Colclough
Huck Seed
Ralph Perry
Chris Tsiprali....
"Shoes"
Ross Boatman

And as I watched table 29 8 minutes in our first victim upped and left . Guess he can enter the 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo at 2:00 pm
10:55 Good Morning World
Good morning or whatever from The Barracuda. It's Father's Day in America; not so in Australia , we wait until September, but Happy Father's Day all round anyway.

With 1,500 on the button, Kathleen Tran could have waited the next several hands to her next big blind in hopes someone would make a mistake. They were at 37 players left paying 36. She picked up Q J, however and went all-in with enough to call the 1,500 big blind. Carlos Mortensen was in the small blind and raised which raised the eyebrows of the big blind. He folded and Juan Carlos turned over two Queens of Spain. End of history.

Some players with more than 12K in chips are
Ross Boatman

Mike Paulle tells us the counts are still not significant - so a more accurate and comprehensive list will be forthcoming
16:30 BREAK and They let Peter Rebuy
Its the end of level 4 - the blinds now go to 100-200 and the green 25 chips are removed. The only player I noticed leaving was Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi his Kings being done in by Queens and a Queen on the flop.
Peter Costa must have been given a special dispensation to Rebuy because there he is on table 121 with medium chips - I swear he wasn't there last time i looked. Phil Helmuth has well above average chips as has Perry Friedman Scott Fischman and the aussie Mike Manttan. More acurate counts very soon.
15:45 ENTRANTS , EARLY OUTS and THE MONEY

Good Afternoon , Morning (if you in the Australian part of the globe )
Chris "The Barracuda" Newton bringing you the early updates for the remaining events.
Today's event sees us getting back to the relative calm of Limit Holdem - the buyin jumps to $2,500 but as before this does not seem to preturb too many players. Last year had 237 entrants and although not complete yet ,there were 37 tables of 9 seated a short time ago.
The room is extra busy though today because Harrahs have a freeroll weekend for their Rewards program players so the 220 table room is atleast 2/3rds used today.
I'm a little new at identifying the players - so please bear with me and i will have a list shortly.
As we bid farewell to Daniel Lazerek and thank him for a great job, we now pass the Day 1's over to a great team to cover and Mike Paulle is going to be covering final tables.
The PokerPages Team are :-

Sharla Lehrmann

Amy Calistri

1:00 AM
After 4.5 grueling hours of heads-up play, Steve Hohn made an incredible comeback from a 9:1 chip deficit and captured the bracelet. On the final hand, Wattel raised all in on the turn with (7s 6d) 9d 10s 7h. Hohn called with (6s Jh) Js 5h 8c. On 6th street, Hohn drew the 7d, and Wattel got the Ah. 7th street was dealt face down. Hohn caught his card and instantly turned it over: an irrelevant 2s. Wattel needed a 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or A to win. He peeked at the card, and dejectedly flipped up the 4s. Hohn's jacks beat Wattel's sevens, and Wattel was eliminated in 2nd place, winning $88,800. Hohn won the bracelet and $156,985. It was a brutal battle between two determined players, both of whom played hard throughout and never gave up.
12:40 AM
Hohn just won another monstrous $250,000+ pot with a pair of aces.
Chip Count
Steve Hohn 455,000
Mike Wattel 150,000
12:30 AM
Hohn just won a monstrous $248,000 pot, and became the new chip leader. (There's only $604,000 in play!) Wattel was showing two queens and a nine. Hohn had two nines on board, and the case nine in the hole.
Chip Count
Steve Hohn 340,000
Mike Wattel 265,000
12:25 AM
Out of the last 20 hands played, only one has gone to 4th street.

The chip count is basically what is was when heads up play began, over three hours ago. Nobody is giving up. It is a grueling match.
11:35 PM
Wattel had Hohn on the ropes, but Hohn rallied by winning eight pots in a row.

Level ends. New level: $4,000 ante, $6,000 bring-in, $15,000-$30,000 limits
11:10 PM
The game seemed pretty much deadlocked until the following hand: Hohn bet the whole way down with J 4 5 10, and Wattel called with apparent reluctance, showing 9 J 8 3. Hohn bet 7th street and was raised. He called, and Wattel showed (7 9 10) in the hole. Wattel's straight won the enormous $248,000 pot.

I thought that the game would go more quickly after the bathroom break, but it doesn't seem to be accelerating.
9:05 PM
Hohn makes up some ground and builds his stack to $270,000. Wattel has $325,000. Now that their stacks are so close, it's time for both players to take a bathroom break.
8:45 PM
Wattel and Hohn have traded blows, with no significant gain by either player. There was one interesting hand in which Wattel folded two open aces, when Hohn had 2 3 5 7 showing.

Chip Count
Mike Wattel 404,000

Ruck had a bad run and suddenly busted out. Ruck lost two huge hands to Mike Wattel: on the first, Wattel made aces full, and on the second, Wattel's 8844 beat Ruck's 7722. Down to about $20,000, Ruck got it in with (2h 2s) 8c 6d Qd against Steve Hohn's (8d 4d) 7d 7c 10s. Ruck failed to improve, and finished in third place, winning $51,440.

Paul moves all in against Al Ruck with (Ad Kd) Qs 5c. Ruck has a non-threatening board of 10s 4h. But Ruck has a little surprise: two fours in the hole. Paul fails to improve, and Ruck wins the pot, eliminating Paul in 4th place. Paul wins $39,525 for his 4th place finish.

Short stack Peter Phillips struggled for a while on the brink of elimination. First, nearly all in, Phillips rallied and scooped a large pot from Al Ruck. Ruck was unable to beat Phillips' 876 low and queen high. Then, Phillips was all in with A2433 against Paul's trip nines, but Phillips caught a perfect 5c on the river, giving him a wheel, scooping against Paul's unimproved trips. On his final hand, Phillips was all in with (9 4) 4 7 6 vs. Paul's (3 5) A 5 2. Phillips caught two bricks, and busted out in 5th place, winning $32,485.
Al Ruck has persevered, but he seems to be the least aggressive player at the table. Paul seems frustrated and somewhat stubborn. Paul got scooped by Steve Hohn, when Paul called down Hohn, Hohn's board showing 3 4 2 4. Hohn scooped with (8 5 5) in the hole.
Meanwhile, Mike Wattel (who is a high-stakes player, and also Cyndy Violette's boyfriend), is playing selectively while sitting comfortably in the lead, with $200,000 in chips.

Paul continues to struggle. Meanwhile, Ruck has become a contender.
3:30 PM
Short stack Men Nguyen was finally eliminated in 7th. Nguyen could not gain any momentum today. He was all in with a 7-low draw and a pair of fours, against Hohn's queens and jacks. Nguyen milked the suspense by squeezing his last card very slowly, but he missed his draws and finished in 7th place, winning $20,035.
3:10 PM
Wattel has increased his chip lead to about $170,000. Hohn has also built his stack, from $53,500 to about $140,000. Early leader Paul has struggled so far. He took a big hit when Phillips scooped a large pot from him, and Paul is now down to $75,000.
D'Agostino survived several early all-ins, but was finally eliminated by Paul. D'Agostino moved in with kings showing and jacks in the hole. Paul had two fives showing, and a third one in the hole. D'Agostino finished 8th, winning $14,080.
Short stack Men Nguyen survived a scare from Ruck. Nguyen moved in on 3rd with (Q 4) 4, Ruck called with (A 7) 2. Nguyen was disgusted when Ruck paired his ace on 5th, but Nguyen made trip fours on 6th and survived. However, Nguyen is still struggling, with less than $20,000.
The limits have now increased:
$1,500 ante, $2,000 bring in, $5,000 completion, limits $5,000 - $10,000. At these stakes, nobody can afford to get scooped in a large pot.

Sheila Gralak just scooped a huge pot off Giacomo D'Agostino. First scoop Ive seen.
The ante has increased to 1000 with a 1500 bring in and the levels are 4K/8K
10:12
The players take a 15 minute break. I will have to give Men credit for his play. He had a King showing and Giacomo had an Ace showing and raised. This is first street. Men turns his hole cards over and shows another king after laying it down, and sure enough, Giacomo showed his Ace in the hole. Most of us would be hard pressed to do that I think.
10:10
For the 3rd and I am sure not the final time, Mike Wattel hammers Men into submission and takes more chips away from him.
10:00
Men loses another big pot. He is NOT a happy camper at all.
9:57
10 Brad Daughtery
Brad never formed much of a hand when he started off with a pair of twos. His oppenent, Johnothan Paul started with two ladies and maintained the whole way through.

Mike Wattel just took 24K off Men Nguyen...and he was NOT happy about it. Can you say vocal???

15th Michael Mizrachi $13,878
16th Joe Beevers $11,565
17th John Juanda $11,565
18th Casey Kasttle $11,565
The Pot-Limit Omaha $2000 Buyin continues today 14th June with 18 players at the final two tables .
The blinds are 1000 and 2000 at the level being played so pots can be huge once raising begins.
First to come under pressure was Casey Kastle one of the low stacks. He had paired Aces and one of them suited , finding Michael ?The Grinder? willing to play with J T 9 7 , the flop fairly well sealed Casey?s fate with a 9 7 5 appearing. Michael bet enough to put Casey all-in and with a Ten and 2 completing the board Casey collects $11,565 for 18th place.
Josh Arieh had a significant effect on John Juanda today. In a head to head struggle Josh called a 15K bet on the turn with only Ace Queen high. After much posturing on the river but no betting, John shows A 9 ? no pair , Josh?s A Q wining a 35K pot. Three hands later it was Josh again who took on John , the board did not help either player but Josh?s Kings eliminated John Queens from this event in 17th place , John also collecting $11,565.
As the players take a 15 minute break Josh Arieh has about 190,000 in chips, Arturo Diaz ( at the same table ) has 180,000 and Doug Lee has 145,000.
Blinds now going to 1500 / 3000.
